The speaker at this online meeting hails from Ukraine's oldest university, which was established in 1661. She is Professor Tatyana Yakhontova. In her own words:
"Tatyana Yakhontova is Professor of English and Linguistics at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine). Her interests focus on research communication and English academic writing. She was one of the founders of the first Center for English academic writing in Ukraine (established at her home institution) and its Director in 2010-2018. She has authored two textbooks on English academic writing.
In her talk, Tatyana will first speak about traditional Ukrainian approaches to writing and editing both in native and English languages and show how they are gradually changing in Ukraine under the influence of Anglophone global context. She will also explain why copy editing of Ukrainian academic texts still remains of particular importance while its applicability to their English counterparts remains much more limited. Then she will describe the most popular forms of English writing support – training sessions, summer schools, and certification programs – available to Ukrainian academics and share her experience of developing and delivering English and bilingual academic writing courses to Ukrainian graduate students in sciences."
Persons who have registered for this online meeting will be emailed the Zoom link to the meeting. Please contact me if you wish to acquire a PE point for attending this meeting.
