At the first 2022 meeting of the SENSE Ed SIG, we are going to devote some serious attention to a topic that we have lately neglected: Business English. At this two-hour meeting, our expert presenter Sue Soltis will examine a large number of topics related to this field.

The basics: intakes/group size/length of training/method/difference in levels
Vocabulary is essential: development/tools/practice
Grammar: What should you focus on?/ How much time do you spend on grammar?
Speaking: presentations/leading a discussion/other activities
Additional aspects: determining what to include in your programme (emailing, presenting, negotiating, reports, trends)/flipping the classroom or not/using their input/providing feedback
Specific sector trainings: real estate/childcare industry/human resources

Sue will also comment on the consequences that Covid has had for business English training. At the end of the presentation, there will be plenty of time for Q & A, so if you have questions of any kind, don’t fail to sign up.

Sue Soltis is the in-house Business English trainer and course developer at Taalcentrum-VU. She earned her BA in communications in her hometown Chicago and earned her Cambridge CELTA (certificate in English language teaching to adults) here in the Netherlands.
Her extensive experience includes providing in-company business English trainings, teaching English for specific purposes to MBO and HBO students, holding business English workshops/seminars/webinars and giving private trainings as well. She also develops business English training material for various corporate sectors and other organisations throughout the Netherlands, including the real estate industry, universities, child care industries, city municipalities, insurance agencies, etc.
In her free time, you can find Sue on her ship and home Jentje Berendina, which she shares with her husband and pug Vinny. Otherwise, you'll find her spending time with her daughters, enjoying dinner parties with friends or relaxing in Monte Alto, Italy enjoying La Dolce Vita!

This meeting is open to all registered SENSE members and will take place on Thursday April 28 from 15:00-17:00. Registration will close on 28 April at 9:00, after which you will be mailed the Zoom link to the meeting. If you miss the deadline, please contact me (David Barick) directly for the link.
