8 December 2011: finlegsig meeting

Topic: Interpreters, their work and craft

Date: Thursday, 8 December 2011

Time: 6pm
Location: De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, Amsterdam
Contact: Stephen Machon

finlegsig members Peggy van Schaik and John Hynd will speak about their work and the craft/art of being an interpreter. They will share their insights with us into some of the elements and training that make up this unique profession. Besides interpreting for courts and negotiations, we also hope to hear about "whispering interpreting" and perhaps even interpreting for the notariaat.

This finlegsig meeting will begin earlier than usual, at 6 o'clock. Our meeting will be for one hour, and we have applied for continuing professional education points to be awarded for this unique mini-workshop. Our meeting place is, as usual, at my office.

Two points have been awarded for our previous meeting on 21 September. If you were at our meeting on that date and forgot to take an attendance certificate with you, please ask me for one on 8 December.

finlegsig will close 2011 with drinks and dinner at a restaurant here in the ZuidAs, starting at about 7 o'clock. Drinks are graciously provided by SENSE. Dinner is for the individual's account to be determined pro rata parte. For the avoidance of doubt, hereinafter referred to as "Dutch Treat". The restaurant provides for all variations of dietary needs and wishes and at reasonable prices.

Besides providing an opportunity to just chat with fellow professionals, dinner should also prove to be a relaxed way to discuss plans for finlegsig in 2012, and a follow-up to our last meeting on a central depositary for translations of Dutch legislation.

finlegsig's meetings are open to all SENSE members and friends and we most cordially invite all to attend. Please RSVP not later than 6 December
