Percy Balemans graduated in 1989 from the Opleiding Tolk-Vertaler in Maastricht. After having worked with a translation agency as an in-house translator, she switched to the IT business, where she worked as a technical writer and copywriter, information designer, web editor and trainer. Translation, however, has always been her real passion and in 2007 she set up her own business as a full-time freelance translator, specialising in advertising and marketing material (transcreation), art, fashion, travel and tourism, human rights and journalism.

Martine Croll read English Language and Literature at Leiden University. She is a freelance copywriter with over 17 years’ experience, writing in both English and Dutch, for major Dutch companies. Writing projects include: annual reports, brochures, newsletters, speeches, websites and more.

Alice Jane Emanuel is a technical author and editor with more than 15 years’ experience in full-time, permanent technical communication. In addition to her crowded work schedule, Alice Jane delivers workshops and presentations about quality, design, language, and tools at conferences and societies throughout Europe.

Alison Gibbs has a BA in German and Russian and a postgraduate qualification in translating and interpreting. She worked for banks in the UK and the Netherlands for 10 years before returning to her translating roots. She specializes in financial and legal translations from Dutch and German into English and also has wide-ranging experience of editing academic, commercial and other texts.

Daphne Lees is a British medical translator/editor and an OR nurse. Almost forty years of working in university hospitals both in the UK and the Netherlands have made her fluent in medicalese - both Dutch and English. While primarily concerned with clinical documents and articles, she has wide experience of many types of medical translation from pamphlets for patients to specialist medical books.

Iris Maher came to the Netherlands in 1990 for no good reason. She worked first as a freelance editor, and as her Dutch improved also began to take on translation assignments. In 2001 she earned a teaching degree, and since then has combined teaching English with translation and editing work.  She has worked in a variety of teaching situations, ranging from attempting to tame raucous teenagers to facilitating learning for polite and motivated professionals, and quite a bit in between.

Peggy van Schaik is English, but has lived in the Netherlands most of her adult life. After working as a bilingual secretary at the HQ of a bank for several years, she changed career and took up translating and interpreting. She has been a sworn translator and interpreter since 1989. Peggy works primarily for direct clients from various business sectors. She is an enthusiastic user of CAT software, and provides training in the use of one such programme: Wordfast.

Peter Smethurst is English, has a degree in economics and trained in London as a chartered accountant. After working in the accountancy profession in the UK and the Netherlands, he joined Apple Computer and after ten years returned to accountancy practice as an in-house translator. He has been a freelance translator since 1996.

Zach Tobin is a former attorney who has been a translator for the past 14 years. In the United States, he worked as an associate with a large law firm, taught legal writing at a law school and served as a lawyer for the federal  government. After gaining experience as a translator at an agency in the Netherlands, he set up shop for himself in 2002, specializing in legal translations.

Lee Ann Weeks is an American with a graduate background in psychology and linguistics, extensive research experience in both the USA and Europe (including the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics), and a keen eye for detail. She is fluent in Dutch, provides direct personalized service, and is specialized in clear and readable science writing, editing, and translation.
